Meet Our Team

Donna Hais, Owner/President
Donna Hais has lived in Nanaimo her whole life. She graduated from Nanaimo District Secondary School and went on to attend Malaspina College/University. After graduating from Malaspina, Donna worked for a local law firm in town. Eventually, she decided that she wanted to change her career path, joining R. W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. to begin learning about all the facets of the construction industry.
In addition to leading R. W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. Donna Hais is also the president, partner, and general manager of our land acquisition and development firm, Canadian Cache Development Corporation. She holds a diploma in Business Administration and has a longstanding history serving on local boards, including the Nanaimo Port Authority (current Board Chair), past President of the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, and the Capital Campaign Health Sciences/Trades for Vancouver Island University (co-chair). She also sits on the Mayor’s Leaders Table.
Donna also currently serves on the Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation board and is the Community Liaison to represent the Medical Staff Association in Nanaimo. She Chairs the community group Faircare Alliance, which is running a political campaign to get Provincial commitment for a new cath lab and a $1.7 billion hospital tower. Her extensive community involvement includes speaking at local conferences, frequent media appearances about healthcare issues, and bringing healthcare professionals in the area together.
Donna’s leadership has earned her the Community Business Leader of the Year award in 2014, the VICA Leadership Award in 2020, and the VIREB 2022 & 2023 Commercial Building Award of Excellence. She has accomplished all of this while raising a family and being involved in serving her community. She enjoys working with and helping people. Whether she is helping members of the community build a better future or helping your dream project succeed from the planning stage through to the end of construction, you could not be in better hands.

Our Story

In the early 1960s, Marvin Wall moved to Nanaimo to oversee the construction of the original Nanaimo Regional General Hospital tower as site superintendent. In 1969, he incorporated a residential construction company with his son, Bob Wall. Over the next seventeen years, Bob and his father constructed several hundred residential projects on Vancouver Island.
Bob incorporated R. W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. in 1986 to focus on commercial construction projects, bringing his daughter, Donna Hais, on board as a partner in 1991. Together with their team, they have grown the company into one of Vancouver Island’s most recognizable names in the commercial development and construction industry.
The R. W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. commercial portfolio includes professional offices, hotels, pubs, restaurants, warehouses, retail spaces, apartment buildings, social housing projects, schools, and churches—with a special focus on dental clinics, medical offices, and surgical centres. Today, we are also bringing to fruition the long-term master plan for the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital campus under our land acquisition and development firm, Canadian Cache Development Corporation.

Our Company is About Our People and Their Commitment to Their Craft
In the most volatile industry in Canada, we have succeeded because of our investment in training our workers. All of our site superintendents have apprenticed with our company. We also participate in the B.C. Apprenticeship program in a variety of ways, such as providing a site superintendent so that the Vancouver Island University carpentry class could build the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce building.

Community Involvement
Our family legacy of investing in our community started four generations ago with the original hospital tower and has evolved into something so much bigger than the buildings we bring to life. Over the years, we have become advocates for improved healthcare standards in the area, serving on boards and committees to represent residents and medical professionals with our deep understanding of what our community needs.

What Our Clients Say
Joanne Harding
Chairman of the Board
Chemainus Theatre Board
“In 2003 when the Chemainus Theatre Board required a job done with utmost attention, care, integrity, financial responsibility and quality, we all thought we were asking more than any one can hope for. We had the faith and trust, however, to assign the contract to R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. Despite a market with a shortage of trades people and our wanting the project completed in one year, this seemed like an overwhelming task. Bob immediately made the hotel his number one priority and was personally on site, as manager every day. He chose reputable and experienced contractors and they, along with Bob, worked long hours. He proved to be a capable administrator at the job site and was reluctant to accept excuses for any delay that would prevent the hotel being built within the one year time limit and budget constraints. Towards this end, he was assisted capably, by his daughter, Donna, in her role as General Manager. She likewise showed the same tenacity, character and timeless effort in ensuring that this project was finished on time. In addition to the hotel, Donna was also managing the various other projects that the company was involved in and similarly worked long hours and weekends. Bob and Donna and their company deserve tremendous respect and the sincere and grateful thanks of all of us. We made the right choice. In spite of the pressures of the job, Bob was never too busy to show people around and discuss the various aspects involved with this project. He maintained a kind and friendly attitude to all involved and never once showed the pressure or worry that he faced daily in this huge undertaking. R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. is a good company to do business with and wonderful people to have around. We are truly blessed in that Bob agreed to supervise this project for us and he has our everlasting thank and appreciation.”

Salvation Army
“R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. has constructed a multi service centre for the homeless including the renovation to an existing social services centre in Nanaimo BC for the Salvation Army on a construction management arrangement. As one of the Salvation Army’s national project managers I can, without hesitation, recommend R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. for a building program similar to our own. This was a difficult project for a number of reasons, one of which was the extremely tight site and, secondly, we had a very limited budget. Bob Wall and Donna Hais have been extremely cooperative on these projects. I would be pleased to work with them again on any future project. “
W.J. Warden
Principal
Mueller-Warden Projects Inc.
“Upon the successful completion of the Chemainus Festival Inn Motel we would like to extend our appreciation for the cooperation and professionalism exhibited by the R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. Custom Contracting Management, Office and Site Personnel during the course of development of this excellently constructed project. Occasionally projects present themselves as a challenge for all of involved: owners, contractor and designers … However, the expertise and experience of yourself and your team was a definitive factor in ensuring that the construction program flowed as smoothly as it did. Monitoring the progress of construction during the recent number of months, we see R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. as a Contractor of highest caliber and integrity. We would be honoured and pleased to act as a reference for any of your prospective clients you would like to refer to us.”

Devon Transport
“Devon Transport Lt. has done business with R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. for over twenty years. During that time they have been directly involved in all aspects of residential, professional, and commercial projects with our company. The projects have varied but include small renovations, major construction and project management. We would estimate the total value of all the projects to be in excess of fifteen million dollars, with the single largest project being in excess of four million dollars. We have found Bob Wall and all his staff to be professional, honest, informed, knowledgeable and most importantly committed to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend this firm to anyone.”
